I agree with Alice Yucht. Ultimately, what really matters after getting certification is YOU and your willingness to be the best that you can be at your profession, not where you got your degree. And it doesn't hurt to have common sense. One of the department chairs in my school, unfortunately, appears to hire teachers based mostly upon where they got their degrees instead of how they have performed or potentially will perform on the job. Last year both of this chair's hires with degrees from prestigious universities got the axe because they just couldn't hack it in the classroom. This year the department has three new teachers with degrees from highly acclaimed institutions, so it'll be interesting to see how they work out. For the students' sake, I hope they do work out. We'll see. . . I'll always remember the magazine headline that one of my undergrad roommates cut out and taped to his desk: "In Tough Times, a Degree ISN'T Enough."
