help!

I was discussing "The Indispensable Librarian" (by Doug Johnson)--as a
recommended nonfiction book for MLIS students-- and have had some requests
for information concerning the publisher and where to purchase it. I have
spoken to Mr. Johnson on LM_NET before and know that he is "lurking"
occasionally. Therefore, Mr. Johnson, if you are "out there" could you be
so kind as to give us information on the listserv concerning this? (My copy
is on my desk at school...but I believe I purchased my copy through
Amazon.com. If this is incorrect or if there are other resources, I'd
appreciate the information. )

Thanks!

Hi Michelle,

I just finished an interesting book on libraries called, _The Book on the
Bookshelf_, by Henry Petroski. It's a history of how books have been bound and
stored. Sounds kind of boring, but is actually quite interesting. It made me
wonder if all our computers now tethered to desks with network cables will come
to be seen by future historians as the 20th century version of the books
chained to desks of the Middle Ages.

Anyway, for someone coming into the field, it might offer a sense of library
history.

Doug
