Some of the very worst teaching I've experienced (as a student) was at the college level. Most of it was strictly behaviorist, take notes, read the assignments, regurgitate, regurgitate, regurgitate. Now and then someone would throw in a cute project of some kind but for the most part it was all lecture and tests. I enjoyed some of my classes. I especially enjoyed some of my lit classes, but even those required little original thought. The professors mostly wanted to hear me tell them what they had had to say... I was involved in one grad program, however, in which instructional practices took a deliberate turn to the right (or left as the case may be). There were many nights when I found myself actually WISHING they'd just give me a book and some lecture notes to memorize. It would have been so much easier! But in the end, I came away from the program feeling I'd really accomplished and learned. J.
