WA state only: Poetry

Forgive me if this is not the correct forum for my request, but I thought I
would ask.  I have had several poetry readings in my middle school library
by students.  Poetry books are also rather popular as check-out items.  I
wonder if it were possible to get schools involved in getting the
legislature to create a poet laureate position for Washington State?  If
there is anyone interested in this please reply.  Many thanks for your time!
