TECH: Video production and editing equipment

Colleagues:

It seems that we will be getting a video production and editing facility
for next year, and I will be in charge of it. So that we don't have to
reinvent the wheel, I'm turning to you for help. What equipment do we
absolutely need to start, what is helpful, and what is just fluff? I'm
interested in knowing not only the type of equipment, but also brand names
and model numbers, if possible. This is for a 7-12 school of about 350
students, but I suspect that as we gain experience with the equipment that
the elementary school (also about 350 students) will want to make use of it
too.
