Dear netters, I received 3 responses to my query about library orientation videos and one was from a Folletts representative. Laura Richards Librarian Fox River Grove School District 3 Fox River Grove, IL 60015 LERich7@aol.com Here's what I learned: -------- Be a book buddy is what I like for elementary. -------- That is a GOOD question, almost like the $64,000 question. I purchased 2 video's from Media Basics and was EXTREMELY unhappily dissapointed. One is--Beyond the Stacks, from Cheshire Meridian Education--Avoid these like the plague. The Best I've found is Library Study Skills from Britannica Educational Corporation. I just called Britannica, got the education phone number, then found out the item number and followed our PO process. This is excellent, upbeat, uses middle school students as the primary teachers. I've shown this to 4-8 grades, though the younger grades do better with it. It goes through many different reference resources. Since I bought this several years ago--it seems like it was $79 then. -------- Here are some suggestions (from the Folletts rep): The Internet Show What is the Internet and What Can it Do Internet Searching Skills Study Skills: How to use the Library Organizing Information Library Systems: On-Line Catalogs Information Resources Planning an Information Search Library Study Skills Using Your Library to Write a Research Paper Video Guide to the Internet =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
