This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_01D6_01BE5E8C.3819CD40 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable LM_Netters: =20 Something is being discussed in my district that is "over my head" as an = emergency-certified Media Specialist, and I'm hoping that I can receive = some advice from the collective wisdom of this list. =20 Our County Library has received a grant to incorporate our districts' = two libraries (Elem. and MS/HS) into their system. (Actually, our elem. = sch. is already under contract to do this, but they want the HS/MS = involved as well.) We would then be using their software (GLO-NET) to = access and circulate our materials, which would be highlighted within = their catalog through a PAC (public access catalog). The County Library = will train us on Dynex, provide tech support, pay for licencing & = maintenance on 1 circulation and 1 PAC terminal, and run all our = reports. =20 On our end, requirements include providing 2 computers, wiring, & = Internet access, attaching to GLO-NET records, re-barcoding our = materials (the barcodes we just finished applying won't work in their = system!), probably purchasing a new barcode reader for the same reason, = along with other optional items such as additional terminals and = maintenance on them. =20 For some reason, I'm feeling very hesitant about this project (although = I doubt I'll have the final say). Although we are a very small district = with limited funds and it would be helpful to have access to county-wide = materials, I feel as though this would take control of our library = totally out of our hands. We also have only recently spent megabucks = automating, only to eliminate that whole system. =20 =20 There is more involved, but I don't want to make this too long. Is there = anyone out there who has encountered this type of situation? I'd really = like to hear the "gut reactions" as well as the pros and cons. Please = e-mail me directly. If you need any further info, I'll be glad to = provide it. TIA! =20 Deb LeCates Clayton (NJ) HS/MS debnkat@bigfoot.com =20 =20 =20 ------=_NextPart_000_01D6_01BE5E8C.3819CD40 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META content=3Dtext/html;charset=3Diso-8859-1 = http-equiv=3DContent-Type><!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 = HTML//EN"> <META content=3D'"MSHTML 4.72.3612.1700"' name=3DGENERATOR> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>LM_Netters:</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>Something is being discussed in my = district that=20 is "over my head" as an emergency-certified Media Specialist, = and I'm=20 hoping that I can receive some advice from the collective wisdom of this = list.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>Our County Library has received a grant to = incorporate our=20 districts' two libraries (Elem. and MS/HS) into their system. = (Actually,=20 our elem. sch. is already under contract to do this, but they want the = HS/MS=20 involved as well.)
