Excerpted from an article called STRESS MANAGEMENT FOR SCHOOL LIBRARIANS, originally published in *Library Talk* magazine, 3/97: =09A verrrrrry long time ago, I had a wonderful fourth grade teacher who taught us to remember to use our =93CBG=92s=94 in order to get along a= nd get ahead in her classroom, in the school, and in the world: =09C was for Courtesy -- being helpful and kind to each other, being respectful of people and materials, saying Please, and May I, and Thank You... B was for Brains -- planning ahead and being prepared, staying on task and working hard, saying Wow - look what I found, and What if we try this... and G was for Giant Grins -- being happy and cheerful, saying I can try, instead of I can=92t do that, Saying YES!! that=92s a possibility! I still have the paperweight I made almost 40 years ago in Mrs. Ellery=92s= class: it=92s a rock, with carefully glued-on macaroni letters spelling o= ut =93Use your CBG=92s today!=94 Every time I look at it, I remember how mu= ch fun we had in that classroom, and how much we accomplished by being personable, productive, and above all, positive. I still use -- and teach -- those skills in my library every day : both directly and by example. Alice H.
