GEN: The Happy99 Trojan Horse (AKA Worm)

Dear LM_NET Colleagues,

I am very sorry that the Happy99.exe trojan horse (AKA worm) has been
spread to LM_NET by list members who have posted to the group. I am
especially sorry that this has happened more than once in the past month.

As we have mentioned in earlier messages, it is the responsibility of the
individual to assure that their mail is free from viruses and similar
problem files. Those who post such messages are dropped from LM_NET
immedialtely, and are not allowed back on until they can assure us that
the problem with their computer has been solved.

In dropping those members we are not making any value judgement against
them, but rather are attempting to keep this LM_NET forum from having
additional problem files posted. In other words, if you are dropped,
"nothing personal"!

Just clean up your computer and let the LM_NET moderators know that you
have done so, and you may rejoin LM_NET.

Update on Happy99.exe Worm - 02/02/99

       A computer worm called Happy99.exe has been discovered in the
       wild in Europe and will likely spread to North America.

       Most of the major anti-virus vendors now have updates that will
       allow their software to detect the malicious code.
