This came from our state education "digital digest". I thought some of you might be interested. Title: Will Libraries Survive? Source: The American Prospect website http://epn.org/prospect/41/41nunb.html Author: Geoffrey Nunberg Issue: Libraries, access to information Description: Despite the author discusses not whether or not public libraries will survive, but in what form. The article was prompted by the announcement that Bill Gates would donate $200 million in software to American public libraries and compares this to Andrew Carnegie's donation of 2,000 library buildings in the nineteenth century. American communities responded by filling libraries with books. The author contends a similar effort will be required with digital libraries. --------------------- Johanna Halbeisen Woodland Elementary School (preK-4) 80 Powder Mill Rd.
