I am going out on a limb here. I have read one Harry Potter book to date. I thought it was very clever and cute. But it did not stand head and shoulders above other fantasy books I have read, much less other books from the wider class of all contemporary titles for young readers. I am NOT criticizing the book, but just wondering why the hoopla. I will admit to liking realistic fiction best, which may be part of the reason for my curmudgeonly remarks. But I cannot say I would rank this as the best fantasy book for young readers I have read, or even in the top five...Again, please note I did not attack the book! And kudos to the author! But...just wondering if anyone has shared my thoughts.
