San Francisco to Los Angeles

Dear Group:

I am also planning a trip to California in August to both San Francisco and
Los Angeles.  My teenage children and I will arrive in San Francisco, spend a
few days, then drive down the coast to LA.  If anyone has any suggestions
about where to stay and what the see between San Francisco and LA or in LA
itself I'd love to hear from you.

In San Francisco and LA we will be staying with relatives.  In between I'd
really like to stay in some out-of-the way, unique, or bed and breakfast type
places instead of the standard motel.
