Dear Cayla and Others, Vendors of large print books include: Baker and Taylor, G.K. Hall / Thorndike, Ulverscroft, LRS (Library Reproduction Service), and The American Printing House for the Blind. Thorndike and Ulverscroft offer a few large print books for juveniles (mostly adult novels) but very few for the lower level groups (3rd--9th grade). LRS is based in California and offer a variety of materials in large print--you can even choose your large print size. But the best sources that I have found for the lower level students are with the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) and Baker and Taylor. They have several titles for the middle school or elementary level, as well as the classics and some Newbery titles. (Although I am finding more and more companies using larger print in some areas--you really have to know what the kid needs in regard to the size of print and the books. I would hope that a visual acuity is being taken into consideration because what one kid thinks is large print may still be small for another!) Remember that these are specialized productions (LRS and APH) so they will usually cost more (between $15-$400+ per title). Thorndike and Ulverscroft are easier to swallow in price but are limited to primarily adult types of books. Baker and Taylor will have the most reasonable and will provide what most libraries need in the areas of children's literature. You can get to these publishers at: American Printing House for the Blind: http://www.aph.org Baker and Taylor: http://www.baker-taylor.com Library Reproduction Services: http://www.lrs-largeprint.com Ulverscroft: http://www.ulverscroft.co.uk Thorndike: http://www.mir.com For additional information regarding large print, be sure to check out the government website which lists many different areas of large print and the vendors. This can be located at: http://www.loc.gov/nls/reference/large.html Remember, also, that there are many book clubs which offer large print titles such as Doubleday at http://www.doubledaylargeprint.com . Hope this helps....if not, please feel free to contact me for others. It's my speciality! :-) P.S.--Don't forget to purchase periodicals in large print, weekly readers, etc. For additional information, or other suggestions, please contact me! There might be alternatives to some of these areas. Have a Great Week!
