Dear Netters,
I'm a former high school English teacher, currently a high
school librarian, who would love to spend a summer in England,
but can't afford a 2-month vacation.
Do you know of any summer-study programs in England, preferably
in London, that might make this dream feasible? My ideal would
be to sign up for a class (in Dickens? Romantic Literature?
Shakespeare?) at an institution that provides room and possibly
board. If classes were in the morning, I could have afternoons,
evenings, and weekends free to explore London and the countryside.
I fully expect to pay airfare, tuition, room and board, but
wonder if this is a feasible way to realise my dream. Do such
programs exist? I know there are teacher-exchange programs, but
do not think these are a possibility for me. I am limited to
the months of July and August. If there are no summer programs
available, do English universities rent out dorm rooms for the
summer, like some American universities do? I simply cannot afford
a London hotel for two months!
Thanks for any information you can share.
