This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0012_01BED7AF.E9495B20 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello everyone, I fully understand that there are loads of search engines out there in the ether ... I also fully understand that many of us become experts with our own favorites ... I can appreciate the fact that many of us can locate the most obscure details at a moment's notice ... For the rest of us, I would like to recommend copernic as a starter all in one package... It is a multi-engine search engine with a few added values ... 1 - the search results are downloaded to your own computer - to be deleted when your use for it is over - and NOT before; 2 - the results are viewed in a web page format and links are all active when selected (clicked on); 3 - the links are verified as active BEFORE they are displayed (dead links are a thing of the past); 4 - (my favorite reason) duplicate sites that are located by the 12 engines it uses are eliminated from the list; 5 - the engines it uses includes alta vista, webcrawler, lycos, infoseek and a handful of the other major engines; 6 - it automatically handles the Boolean search syntax of each engine it uses; 7 - it is FREE... (another favorite reason); 8 - there is a purchased version (not free) which ups the ante to about 125 engines and databases for each search (if the original 12 isn't enough of a search); 9 - the results are displayed in relevancy sequence (highest at the top - all engines on one list and not grouped by search engine). So, although I would be the last to indicate or advocate that one search engine would please all of us or fit all our needs, I do think that the influx of the new librarians who come requesting assistance for locations of web sites, subject matter, and general knowledge solutions would benefit from a multi-purpose engine such as copernic... And like Mikey's siblings have been heard to mutter on one occasion, "Hey, he LIKES it!" Aloha y'all - - - Earl J.
