Hi Everyone, I feel like venting today and I was just wondering if anyone has been in or known anyone in my situation... My state requires the Praxis I test scores in order to be certified as a media specialist. For the past year, I taken and retaken the math part 6 times. I have always been bad in math. This was my last year on my provisional license and yesterday was the absolute last time I could take it and get the scores back before the next school year starts. Needless to say I did not pass again. So this year is going to start without me. After being here for 3 years, I am just finally getting the hang of things and have things pretty much the way I want them. I really cannot believe that because I cannot pass one portion of that test that the Commonwealth of Virginia considers me incapable of teaching library science in a K-5 school! And I know that I do not need to tell you folks that "teaching" is just one piece of the pie. I can continue to take the test until I pass at $50-70 a pop until I pass it, but that is not going to help when it is time for the media specialist to report back to work. That media center is going to be off to an awful start without someone (professional) starting there on Day 1. To make things more interesting, I am 6 months pregnant, so getting a new job at this late date is pretty much a daunting task. Obviously I am leaving a lot of details out of the story, but I think you get the idea. I am just so incredibly angry and incredibly hurt and feel so incredibly stupid that I lost my job because I am weak in a subject that truly has no bearing on my particular duties as an elementary media specialist. Can anyone relate to my situation, or am I the only one? I could really use some assurance that things will get better for me and my library. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.
