I am investigating the possibility of applying for a grant to run a "Books for Babies" Program. The children's programmer and myself would like to run a weekly program with parents with babies and young toddlers. We would do Mother Goose rhymes, simple songs, and board books etc. We would also try to greatly expand our board book and nursery rhyme collections as well as books for the parents on the importance of reading to your children. Hopefully we could also produce hand-outs and tip sheets for the parents. Are you currently running such a program? How have you structured your program? Could you suggest articles or books on this topic or literature that cites the importance of reading to young children? Do you have any brochures about your program that you could mail me? Thanks for your input. -- Jo-Anne C. Cooper Manager of Library Services Wetaskiwin Public Library 5002 - 51 Avenue Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
