Thanks to everyone who sent me sources for locating how to say hello and =
goodbye in different languages.

Websites:
http://www.elite.net/~runner.jennifers/hello.htm
(this one was the the easiest to use and had the most responses)
http://www.travelang.com/languages
http://www.facstaff.bucknell.edu/rbeard/diction.html

Cd-rom:
National Geographic Picture ATlas of the World has a feature that you can =
click on for each country and hear hello and a little of the language. =
The text also appears on the screen.

Books:
Greetings of the World by Richad Kozar
Greetings by Karin Luisa Badt

the LMNET archives also has a listing

here are some that people sent me
Japanese: hello -- Konnichi wa
                      goodbye -- Sayonara
Arabic: informal hello -- Marhaba
formal hello -- Assalamu aleikum (peace be to you)
reply -- Wa aleiku, assalam (and to you)
goodbye -- Ma'a salaama (go with peace)

You can also do a search in Altavista using "hello in many languages" =
with the quotes.

Thanks again everyone, the teacher who made the request will be thrilled =
with the results!
