Thanks to everyone who sent me sources for locating how to say hello and = goodbye in different languages. Websites: http://www.elite.net/~runner.jennifers/hello.htm (this one was the the easiest to use and had the most responses) http://www.travelang.com/languages http://www.facstaff.bucknell.edu/rbeard/diction.html Cd-rom: National Geographic Picture ATlas of the World has a feature that you can = click on for each country and hear hello and a little of the language. = The text also appears on the screen. Books: Greetings of the World by Richad Kozar Greetings by Karin Luisa Badt the LMNET archives also has a listing here are some that people sent me Japanese: hello -- Konnichi wa goodbye -- Sayonara Arabic: informal hello -- Marhaba formal hello -- Assalamu aleikum (peace be to you) reply -- Wa aleiku, assalam (and to you) goodbye -- Ma'a salaama (go with peace) You can also do a search in Altavista using "hello in many languages" = with the quotes.
