I used this lesson a few years ago.  Some were pretty hard to find.
Here is what I know about some of your:
1950- Studebaker - the '50 Studebaker was quite controversial because of
the "bullet nose" look. They are much sought after now as collector
items (I'm a member of the Studebaker Driver's Club)

1955 - Peter Pan - probably refering to Mary Martin's broadway
production in which she "flew" on stage.

1956 - Alabama univeristy intergration - James Meredith enter the U. of
Ala. under court order and with George Wallace blocking the door.  One
of the major events that started the civil rights era.

late 1980's Hypodermics on the shore - there was much press coverage of
medical waste washing up on shore, mostly in New Jersey and Long
Island.  Beaches were closed, etc.

1954 - Roy Cohn - legal council for the McCarthy hearings and a viscious
interagator
