Here's the hit for books to use in teaching opposites and compound words.
I've just included a list for each.........Got more suggestions for opposites
than compound words. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions.

Opposites

Paddington's Opposites by Michael Bond
Guinea Pigs Far and Near is great to use for opposites, directional words and
sight words
Nice or Nasty: A Book of Opposites by Nick Butterworth
Dry or Wet by Bruce McMillan
Traffic: A Book of Opposites by Betsy and Giulio Maestro
Exactly the Opposite by Tana Hoban
Short train, long train by Asch, Frank.
What's What_ by Mary Serfozo (Margaret K. McElderry Books, 1996)--simple
rhyming text deals with opposites like long and short, wet and dry,
etc...nicely illustrated.
Push, Pull, Empty, Full - Hoban

Compound Words

Once there was a Bull...(frog)" by Rick Walton. It's the first one I've seen
that is so beautifully illustrated.
All aboard overnight by Maestro is great for compound words.
