Our elem. librarian has just learned that one of our school board members has three proposals to trim the budget, one of which is cutting the book budgets! Her reasoning is that we have the Internet and therefore should not need as much money for books!!!! The principal (who fortunately is outraged and a wonderful library supporter) has called a meeting with staff, some board members, parents, etc. to discuss this and hopefully enlighten this one board member. I must say she seems to have some clout on the board although we don't know exactly how or why. She is relatively new and seems to have her own agenda. She single handedly pushed through a filter program for the elem. internet computers (Bess/N2H2) that was installed without anyone's knowledge until after the fact. Anyone got any good amunition to use against this argument? The meeting will take place next week. Thanks.
