Does anyone have any experience with what my principal calls Parallel Block Scheduling in the elementary school day. It creates an uninterrupted block of time for literacy with students grouped by ability and divided into smaller groups part of the day. Art, music and PE specialists would not be scheduled during this time. Extra people take some students away for "extensions" such as Special Ed., TAG, ESL, Lit Lab, and Instrumental music etc. so the teacher can work with smaller numbers of students. How does the library fit into this kind of schedule? Have you been able to maintain a flexible schedule that makes you available to work with students during content time? Have you been forced to go to more of a fixed schedule to provide time for teachers? What different ways can the library fit into this kind of schedule? I need information soon because we need to decide in a few weeks if we are going to change to this kind of schedule. Thanks for your help.
