I hate to disagree (yah, sure!), but guns are not the problem.  Bullets
are.  Why there is so much opposition to marking all bullets -
technologically a fairly simple procedure - is a mystery to me.

Gun control, like it or not, would jeopardize some of the basic assumptions
of the Constitution of the United States, including the citizens' right to
control their government if it tries to become dictatorial.

Wait!!!  I'm not flaming!!!!  Living overseas for some 11 years has made me
very aware of the potential problems when the citizenry is unarmed.  And,
while there are tremendous safeguards and a population that truly believes
in democracy in the United States, the writers of the Constitution were not
so sure that, at some point, the citizens would have to defend their own
freedom from their own government.

There is, however, nothing to prevent marking the actual items of destruction.
