This is slightly off topic, but may be of interest. I just finished a first reading of "The Victorian Internet: The Remarkable Story of the Telegraph and the Nineteenth Century's On-Line Pioneers," by Tom Standage (Walker & Co., 1998; list price $22 in hardback). GREAT book! Some history, some technology, some biography, and the eeriest darn parallels between the Internet and the telegraph system. The book goes on my short list of "must read" recommendations. I would also recommend it highly for all libraries from middle school up, since I suspect that a lot of kids would enjoy it as much as would their parents and teachers -- great perspective on modern technology, grist for reports and projects. It is non-technical and includes some illustrations (engravings and the like). Ken -- Kenneth W.
