Gen: Zoot Suit

LM_Netters,
  Our music teacher is interested in learning how the zoot suit came to
be named just that.  Was the suit named after anyone in particular?  Was
this fashion primarily popular in the 20's, the 30's, or the 40's, or all
three decades?  Any light you could shed on this fashion would be greatly
appreciated.  Teachers at my school are always impressed with your wealth
of knowledge and your generous spirit of lending a hand.
