In support of Peter, there are many reasons to end this. First, the arguement is getting circular. Many other discussions have been ended here when the discussion starts biting itself in the back. Second, a list moderator can be considered to be the equivalent of an editor of a journal. If there is a letters to the editor column, an editor may publish letters as he or she sees fit. In some academic journals, the Letters column becomes another place for academic battles. In some cases the battles have gone on for quite awhile. Some have spawned opposing articles in other journals. Occasionally, an editor will decide that nothing further remains to be discussed that is on topic for the journal and declares the discussion in his (or her) journal at an end. No more letters, no more articles, no book reviews... nothing. The parties involved usually find out in two ways, by having their submissions rejected and a public notice from the editor. If the parties want to continue the discussions they are free to find another forum, or start their own journal. For those who want to continue the discussion, a list has been set up at: http://No2Laura.listbot.com/ (link posted on LIBREF-L) I have no idea if it's still operating or what the rules are. This is simply posted so that those who want to keep discussing this can do so. I am not going to 'bury my head in the sand', but I'm also not going to keep bringing up the latest outrageous statements and expect to see discussions that simply re-hash old arguments.
