Dear All, Even for those of you who are tired of the debate, this is more frightening to me than Toys R Us withdrawing funding. This was from the Illinois Library Association Subject: ILA Update # 19, Senate Passes Filtering Legislation Action Request For immediate release from: Robert P. Doyle Illinois Library Association 312-644-1896, phone 312-644-1899, fax e-mail: ila@ila.org http://www.ila.org Illinois General Assembly Senate Votes to Support Filters On Thursday, 13 May 1999, the Illinois General Assembly voted 38 in favor, 18 against, and 3 present to House Bill (HB) 1812 with an amendment regarding filtering in schools (For background information, see ILA Updates #16, 17, and 18.) The bill now returns to the House for concurrence. ILA requests that members contact their local Illinois General Assembly representative to express their opposition to House Bill (HB) 1812, and to share their concerns about the implications of this proposed legislation. With the adjournment of the Illinois General Assembly's 1999 Spring legislative session scheduled for Friday, 21 May 1999, the vote in the House will be taken shortly. (I have tried to type this exactly, any mistakes are mine) I have already contacted the office of my local rep by phone to see how she plans to vote, and will also send a fax opposing the bill.
