ELEM: arnold Lobel and hidden art!

talk about hiding things duh!  I treated myself to a Big Book of On
Marketplace by arnold Lobel because the illustrations by Anita deserved
to be BIG!  So after years of drooling over the little book I did the
big book with first grade this week - as part of my November unit on
authors and illustrators.  Wouldn't you know it was a 6 year old who
jumped up and shouted FROG AND TOAD!  I had never noticed this! Sure
enough there they were! Right in the heart of On Marketplace!  So the
rest of the week I had other classes on the lookout for two of their
favorite characters hidden in the book --- what a perfect lead in to
Arnold Lobel!
