Return to work in Birmingham

For those who heard about the Birmingham Public Schools sick-out and work
stoppage during AASL -- at an emergency board meeting this afternoon, the
superintendent recommended that his raise and extended contract be rescinded
and the board accepted his recommendation unanimously.  One of the board
members mentioned that she was afraid the system would be taken over by the
State Department of Education if the problem wasn't solved immediately.
Other problems will be worked out during the weeks to come but our BEA
president was satisfied with board action.

We go back to work tomorrow.  The teachers who went to work during all of
this will be given compensation for the two extra days to make up for the
days missed.  We will use days in April that were designated as snow days.

Now maybe I'll have a successful book fair.  It will be extended through
next Tuesday.
