Our school's strategic plan has mandated that we conduct an assessment of =
the multicultural holdings in the two libraries, classrooms and departmenta=
l libraries in order to determineif these collections are in line with the =
diversity goals outlined in the plan. While getting a list of titles in =
our collection is accomplished easily, with a few exceptions, arriving at =
a bench mark(s) to apply is not as self evident. The entire strategic =
plan is to be "data driven" and we are to support our conclusions and =
recommendations with statistics. So far we have thought of the following =
measures:
1. comparison of the collection with the various standard lists, Wilson, =
for example.
2. measurement against specialized bibliographies and lists. Using =
Rochman's Against Borders etc.
3. comparison with "best" lists
Sre there others which you can suggest?

A second problem is presented in determing what percentage of our =
collections should be devoted to this. Should we measure against the =
percent in the school, the city or the nation? Should we use an outside =
consultant, if so, who? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
