Some of you may have caught the NPR Harry feature this morning. On the heels of it, one of my seventh grade library aides returned ..Chamber of Secrets, saying, "I had to stay up really late to finish this. I wanted to read it right after supper, but we went to the movies, and my mom caught me trying to take the book in with me and wouldn't let me." It is a powerful book that can overpower the spell of visual effects that holds so many of the kids we work with captive. As we know, the book is almost always better than any movie--we've just got to get kids to read the book. Rowling's doing our job for us. We just have to be ready with other books we know kids will like to keep the enchantment alive. "Just the knowledge that a good book is waiting at the end of the day makes that day happier."
