This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01BF2216.E21C65C0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable One of our most well-read mothers, library volunteer, kindergarten aide, = came in upset today with Judy Delton's A Pee Wee Christmas. Her second = grade son was reading it when he pointed out that the story was starting = to question "Santa Claus" (as the bringer of gifts). In fact, the = ending of the story (reading level 2.0) has Molly telling Sonny "There = isn't any real Santa Claus," and denigrating him for believing. The = parent asked, "What right does the author have to do this?" Well, I don't take issue with the author's right to write whatever she = feels appropriate. My assistant and I read farther and did feel that = the series in general has the Pee Wee Scouts being mean to each other = and putting others down a lot. It made us wonder why they are so popular with 2nd grade students and = teachers. I gave the parent the publisher's address to write to Judy Delton, but = also wonder if you all have had questions about the series. Thanks.
