ELEM: Dazzling first grade fun

I somehow got into Lois Ehlert with first grade This month I guess
because of them always doing Chicka Chicka about that time. It led to
Moon Rope and thenthe next week to the Zoo mask shape book.  We talked
about her intense colors and simple shapes so for this week:  first each
class entered the library to find 5 duplicate tables set up with one 12
X 18 piece of very bright paper and on it were an array of pre cut (by
me) birght shapes of all sizes in ones twos threes or fours. So that all
together there were about 10-12 different little piles of colored
shapes.( also a few cirlces from the hole puncher too. Each table had
the identical colors and shapes and sizes. Their mission was to work in
teams of 4 (or 3) and create an imaginary creature. with what was in
front of them, no ripping or folding the papers.  Each class of the four
first grades got different background colors and shapes and colors. When
each class left my momma volunter and I hustled and glued everything
down! Oi Vey! The hall is dazzling filled with the extrordinary things
hanging up! They loved it and I love it too! Try it!
