I read the article and have been thinking about
it a lot all day. Usually I don't get involved
with anything even vaguely political. Its too
easy to say something which is misinterpreted.

I liked the idea of writing the paper to tell
what we think of them and also calling the
sponsors but, before you do all that, think about
the line our profession has taken recently.
Whether we personally espouse those beliefs or
not, the "governing" organization of libraries
has been extremely vocal about it for quite some
time.

When you stand up for what is right and something
as hot as First Amendment rights, you are going
to get blasted.  I have been surprised that we
haven't been taken to task more often on this
subject.  I am not suggesting we back off but we
have to be prepared for the fall out if we stand
for what we believe.

Also consider that writer has done what he is
paid to accomplish ... stir up the kettle, rake a
little muck, get people talking about his
newspaper and his column. I doubt he really cares
what librarians do or think.
