Dear LM_NETters,

Here is a reply I received to my request for online records for
videos and music CDs from MARCIVE:

> "TARGET: Is there someplace to find MARC records online
> for video recordings like Lib. of Congress for books? Also,
> how about a site for MARC records for music CDs? I can't
> afford to belong to OCLC and tap into their records.
> Please reply privately and I will post a compiled HIT."

HIT:

> MARCIVE, Inc. offers a very affordable way for school libraries to order
> MARC records. Our database includes the PMSC database, which is a very
> large AV cataloging database. We also have records from the Library of
> Congress, US Government Printing Office, National Library of Canada,
> National Library of Medicine, as well as records entered for our
> customers' retrospective conversions. All you need is an Internet
> connection and a browser like Internet Explorer to access our database
> through a program called MarciveWeb SELECT. You search the database by
> title, ISBN, ISSN, and get to look at the full record. You can even
> edit the record online to include local information. We additionally
> offer smart barcode labels, spine labels, shelflist cards or full sets,
> and authority records. You place the order (and there's no minimum or
> maximum order) and overnight we process this order and made the file of
> customized MARC records available the next day for retrieval either
> through FTP or browser download. Any requested paper products are
> shipped the next day.
>
> What does it cost? There is no sign-up, set-up, or subscription fees.
> You only pay for those records and optional products that you order.
> Records produced by Library of Congress are $.27/record and those from
> PMSC are $.87/record. You can see on the title screen the source of the
> record so you can determine up front what you would be paying.
>
> If you would like to see first-hand what you'd be able to order, you can
> sign up for a free 30-day trial of MarciveWeb SELECT. Just call our
> Customer Service Department at 800-531-7678 and ask for a password.
>
> We service a wide variety of libraries, including school, church, and
> hospital libraries on limited budgets. Please call Customer Service
> with any questions you may have.
