I went into the archives and typed in Library vs Internet. There are quite a few entries there. You might want to check them out. One of the best—from my limited perspective--was one on 4/7/95 which listed a wide variety of resources (books and all) that address that statement, and I believe support the library. I know a study was run by someone (I've lost the data) in which 2 groups were given the same questions to answer. Sort of a race of accuracy and speed. The restults are SOMEWHERE in the archives, but I haven't been able to find them. I know they're there because I found them last year for MY administrator. Good luck! One confessed that she'd never learned to record on hers. Most people need librarians as guides to information resources (not to mention printer problems, saving files, etc.). Our libraries are organized, and look how many people need help using them, or won't even come in the door. Now, what makes anybody think that people can find *more* on the unorganized, unevaluated, unedited Internet? Physical libraries and bound books with paper pages might become obsolete, but people will still need librarians to help them. Stepping down from my soapbox, Cindy Cynthia Carr, librarian Cleveland High School home: wccarr@ionet.net http://www.cleveland.k12.ok.us Doug Johnson wrote a wonderful piece for Knowledge Quest for his column _Real Questions, Good Answers_ called "Why do we need Libraries when we have the Internet?" [September/October 1998]. "Real Questions, Good Answers provides answers to those absolutely right-on questions we repeatedly get from outside our profession. The editor invites readers to submit actual questions and write those articulate answers needed for board members, principals, teachers and others who question the role of the school library and media specialists.
