I have questions for you experienced K-8 folks. I have worked for many years in an elementary setting but have a new position in a k-8 building. I am not so sure I am going to keep things the way they have been previously arranged. There are Easy shelves, Jr. Fiction and also just plain Fiction. They are located in separate sections of the library, obviously to keep the reading matter separated. If I don't even know where to look for the books, how are the kids and teachers going to do it?! I would like to know how others have handled this in their libraries, especially if you think your system works well. I also need your advice on what constitutes YA? Are books that are considered YA appropriate for 6-8 or are they more geared to High School age? Short of reading everybook is there a surefire way to order for this agegroup via reviews, etc. There appears to be a fine line here between putting appropriate material in the right hands and censorship. Your insights are appreciated as always.
