Can anyone recommend a good (preferably short) article on the importance of intellectual freedom/avoidance of censorship? The most powerful article I have even read on censorship is by Archibald MacLeish. The article is an address he gave at the dedication of the Carleton College Library in 1956. The title is "A Tower Which Will Not Yield." It can be found in his Book Champion of a Cause. The book is out of print, but it is well worth the time and effort to locate a copy. Every year I pull the article out during the first month of school and reread it to remind myself what we are supposed to be all about.
