Hello, LM_Net,

Sadie's question about adult books for HS is a very good one. I do have
Bastard Out of Carolina in my collection. It's on my Psychology and 11th
grade English teachers' "outside" reading lists. Students must choose from
these very extensive lists, so no one is ever required to read any specific
book. The whole of our 11th and 12th grade English outside reading lists
are adult books. By the time most of our students are that age, they are no
longer interested in and will not read YA books -- especially my scifi and
fantasy readers. If we didn't have adult books, we would not be serving
that portion of our population. Yes, adult books in a HS library can draw
fire from the community, but I don't think we'd be doing our jobs if we
excluded them.

My two cents, anyway, :)

Greetings -- do any of you have this book in your collections? I've been
purchasing from the ALA's Outstanding Books for the College Bound
lately, but I'm afraid that in my conservative community B out of C
could cause somewhat of a stir, if not an out an out outrage.
Your thoughts? I could always send the book back, but would rather
not.
How about your thoughts on adult books for yound adults in general?
