Security Systems

I have a Knogo system in my media center.  Shhhhh, it hasn't worked all
year.  I'm having a devil of a time getting the rep to call me back.  I've
been here since 94 with no trouble.  It was purchased in 92.  What's the
life span of these systems?  Is it worth fixing?  Should I replace it.  I
still don't know what's wrong with it.  What  is the better system?  Will
it work with the strips already in my books or do I have to replace those
too.
