My original question was what do you do when the Dewey number is longer than the book spine is wide. It was a popular question (I received 64 responces) 24 - Said they wrap it around the front of the book. Most of them acknowledged that it make it harder to shelve but they like all the labels facing the same direction 30 - When the label is too long, they turn it parallel to the spine. 4 - All their labels run parallel to the spine 6 - This is interesting. For all their books they put the decimal on the next line such as 559 .74 PAL 2 - people said they make the labels up and down with the characters facing the same way such as below 5 9 9 . 7 4 P A L I still haven't decided what I will do. I kind of like the idea of putting the decimal on the second line (it gives the look of the LC system.) I am just wonder whether the kids would get confused. I am finished with this survey -- PLEASE don't respond to me about it anymore -- Thanks to everyone who did. ----------- Frederick Muller Halsted Middle School Library 59 Halsted Street Newton, NJ 07860 voice (973) 383-7440 ext.229 Fax (973) 383-7432 My Book reviews are compiled at: http://www.halsted.org/br.htm =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
