Dear New Yorkers, I am new to New York's library standards. In Texas I was in a school with teams and block scheduling, flexible too...teachers integrated subjects and planned with the librarian. Here I have teams with 40 min. periods. The teachers are signing up for research in the library when they want to come in and I will integrate research and information skills with their curriculum. However, I have seen in my student handbook that N.Y. requires students to have 1 period a week of library instructional time. The high school librarian says this is not true and that the printing is outdated and needs to be changed. What are the current standards? I'm sure there has to be a web site out there with them. By the way, is there also a web site for New York teachers as a curriculum resource/professional development? Thanks, Amy Austin, LMS VVS Middle School Verona, N.Y.
