In the interest of brevity...I received over 50 replies to my question about alphasmart keyboards and macintosh computers. Every reply was favorable! Schools are using them as traveling labs, in special ed and regular ed, as laptops for notetaking by teachers during workshops, as check out computers for home use. Everyone seems to like them and quite a few people said they wished they could afford to buy more. The connectivity to the mac's and to printers was described as easy to use. I did get a suggestion to check the web site and see which printers are compatible. I also got favorable responses about their keyboarding program called Keywords. One person did say that they felt keyboarding practice was better on a computer because the kids could see the entire screen at once and they were better positioned for correct posture etc. than if using a portable keyboard. People said they required very little service and/or maintenance and that they were fairly indestructible. They liked the fact that they are light, easy to use, durable and have an automatic off setting. The only conflicting replies were about the batteries. Some were positive about using regular batteries and said they lasted quite a while and a few others said they had to replace batteries often and wish they had gone with the rechargeable ones. Thanks to all who replied. You were a great help and we are going to purchase them.
