Post WW 2 Europe books for HS class

Our Social Studies teacher is looking for a book on post WW 2 Europe for his
class to read next year.  It should be for advanced readers, should be
upbeat, (not a downer, as its the last book they'll read for his class).  It
could be a biography, fiction, or a 'travels with Charlie' type book. It
could be about a single country, not necessarily all of Europe.  Paperback
would help, as each student needs a copy.  I know someone out there has the
perfect title.  I sure don't.  Thanks for your help.     Sally
