ELEM: 4th grade research topics?

Looking for topic suggestions  for a fourth grade (50 kids) to do

research on... preferably something where each child or pair has a
different topic. We usually use ZooKeeper computer  program and then do
animal reports, however parents have decided that the topic is being
done too often (grades 1 and 2 also do animal reports, just much
simpler). Third grade does U.S. States, so that is out...  Other than
Countries of the world, does anyone have any thoughts? I was thinking
about New Jersey counties, but we don't have enough information here.
