Please help! A patron has asked for the term for the literary devise (and sometimes just a slip of the tongue) for transposing the initial letters of several words for humorous or sarcastic purposes. Unfortunately, I can only think of not-wonderful examples on short notice. To wit: "That librarian is a hameless shussy." (Shameless hussy) or, "that ditch would never marry a bitch-digger." If you know, please clue me in. My dictionaries of literary terms are not up to this task. PS: The patron introduced himself on the phone as my tax-preparer, who calls on occasion with questions of such arcane knowlegde. But let me tell you, as I only mailed my taxes off on Friday, I had a moment of panic when I heard his voice! -- Sadie Longood, Librarian Dallas (OR) High School sadieh@viser.net http://www.open.org/~dallashs/LibPage.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
