'Netters, Thought I'd share a fun activity I did with sixth graders today. I got the start of this idea from Bookbag magazine.Although the students think they're too sophisticated for an egg hunt, they surely were curious when they arrived in the library and found plastic eggs hiding (well, not too well hidden!) all over the place. Each egg had a question that could be answered with some "tool" in the library--catalog, thesaurus, atlas, almanac, newpaper, globe, encyclopedia, etc. The student had to locate the answer and then share with the class how they found their information I had enough eggs for each student to have two, although more per child would have worked well. They really enjoyed it and got a chance to practice their information retrieval skills, too. This could be tailored for a variety of age groups, depending on their familiarity with reference tools in the library. Counting the days till spring break......................
