We have a number of local college students who serve as mentors for our students. Sometimes they come to the media center with their kids and ask to use the internet computers. We have no written policy at all so far for internet use - it's mostly been just me asking nosy questions, like what site do you want to visit and do you know how to get there? When students ask about it, I tell them I have to be with them while they're on the internet. We're an inner-city school and not many kids have ever even seen an internet site, so it's new to them as well as to our teachers, who are mostly techno-phobic. These college students are good kids and I'm sure they just want to help our kids experience the 'net, but I'm uncomfortable letting them just have at it without at least some hovering from me. Am I off base here, or does anyone have a written policy already that would help me with this? I don't really know how to deal with this without some guidance, and I'm not getting it from my administrators.
