Depending on how you want to use the data you're working with, you will
probably want to have an actual database software program running to
provide information for your web pages.

The first thing you have to determine is what resources are available from
the organization hosting your web site. If you're renting space from a
vendor to put your web site on their computer, you'll need to ask them what
software programs they have available on the system and what it will cost
you to access those resources.

If you're running your web site on a computer y'all own, then you need to
figure out what operating system and web server you're using.

If your os/web server combination is running on a Windows machine, there
are several tools available but there's probably going to be some cost
involved in purchasing the additional software to let you achieve your goals.

If your os/web server combination is running on a Linux machine, there are
a lot of tools available for free which do a great job (MySQL and PHP, for
instance), but they require more effort as you have to install and
configure the software.
