Dear Colleagues,

I am new to a middle school setting this year (grades 6-9). Although I =
had my orientation/library/dewey skills=20
all prepared for the elem. level, I have nothing for the middle school. =
And yes, I think that it is important
that students know "something" about the dewey decimal system and how =
books are organized.
I have visited some of the dewey websites that some of you have =
developed/posted and plan on incorporating
them into my overview, but first I'd like to assess what it is that =
students do know already, so that the information
I do present is not mundane or boring. Rather than reinvent the wheel, =
do any of you out there are a pre-assessment
tool/activity that you have developed to determine where students are at =
prior to going into depth regarding how/where to
locate books in the library?

Thanks for your help!
